DIY...Saturday?: 10 Minute Valance

Hello There!

Baby is sleeping so I shall blog while I have a moment. I did loads of projects before baby was born, so I kinda need to catch up on the blogging. I haven't done one since she was born, but let me tell you I NEED TO CRAFT. I feel like I'm going crazy! (Well I am a new first time mom so there is a certain element of crazy that goes with that title) Unfortunately, I am also moving in a couple months, so all the craft stuff is kinda packed up. We have already found a future home and let me tell you, I am excited. Why you ask? Because I get a craft room. An entire room (okay, for it's size it's like half a room) dedicated to just crafts. So after moving, unpacking, starting (hopefully) a new job, I will be crafting and sewing all hours of the day (okay, for like an hour while baby naps).

Anyways. I'll be honest, this is kinda a lame project. Nothing ground breaking, but it's a project that is fast, easy, cheap and most people can use it regards if they have children or not. (Unlike the 100 baby-related projects I have posted and will be posting in the future)

Oh jeez...baby just started making noise. Must blog quickly.

Measure The Window

If you want your valance to fit your window exact straight across, then you would want to add a 1/4 of an inch around the edges and approximately 2 inches to the top (to fold over to put your curtain rod through). I wanted my to be a bit wavy, so I added a couple of inches to the width. Cut your fabric.

Sew

Fold over the 1/4 inch extra on the sides and bottom and sew. Make sure you leave the top to last so you don't sew close your opening. (I of course give this piece of advice since I was an airhead and did such thing) Fold over top 2 inches and sew along cut edge so you now have a two inch opening on the top of your valance.

Add Flair

I found this fun pleated edging stuff in the ribbon section of my local craft store. I just tucked the edge of the fabric in to the pleating, pinned and ran a quick stitch down the length of the valance.

And there you go..an easy uber cheap valance.

Baby is now grunting and practically sucking her hand off...time for lunch. :)

Meet Lila

Hello There!

I am hoping to have a DIY Wednesday this week! Lila has gotten into a better schedule and I've started to figure out this mom thing. We took some pictures of Lila when she was two weeks old (she is four weeks now!). She has gained so much weight...I can barely believe it! The supplementing really helped her get back on track. I took these pictures on a picnic table in my backyard if you can believe it! It was slightly cloudy and which is just perfect for lighting.

Enjoy our little one! I made an announcement with this first picture, so I'll post that once I get it printed and mailed off to the family.

A little giggle...

Big Yawn!

She always has her hands on her face...this was true even in the womb! We never got a picture of her face because she was always touching her face.

Baby!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to check in. I haven't been posting because our lovely Lila joined us on May 15th. Being a new mom is exciting, but very busy. I'm not sure the next time I'm going to be able to post something, but I'm hoping things settle down here soon!
