DIY Sunday: Little bit of this and a little bit of that

Hello There!

I have been MIA for a few weeks! I was on vacation in Idaho for a week and then, of course, it takes at least a week to recover from the vacation. This week I have a couple different small projects to share.

The first project is the project we did this month for Craft Club. We made sunburst mirrors. There are a million different sunburst mirror projects on Pinterest you could pick. I chose to use wood shims as my sunburst. This craft is actually really cheap. I spent about a $10.00 on the craft. Visit The Thrifty Abode for the tutorial. My mirror turned out nice, but I did something wrong with the plywood underneath. Although the plywood made it very easy to hang.

I also have made two mason jar soap pumps. This projects if very easy. I got two mason jars from my mother-in-law with zinc lids. I got two soap pumps by buying some Suave lotion with grey lids. You just have to snip the straw to fit in the jar. You just take a hammer and a screw driver and hammer it through the top. The ceramic underneath will break easily. You can then use some pliers to peel back the lid to make room for the pump.

I also had some fun with my Silhouette too. I made this little sign for my daughter's door. It's hard to tell, but it's yellow vinyl.

Finally, my mother-in-law found me this end table to give a facelift to. I'm excited to sand it and give it some color. That will come next week!

DIY Sunday: Junkin' and Huntin' 2012

Hello!

A few months ago I was hanging out with some creative gals, and we thought it would really fun to hit up all the thrift stores and junk stores in one day. A few weeks ago I felt stir crazy and was reminded of this idea we had. That was the start of "Junkin' and Huntin'"

Our Junkin' and Huntin' event was a trip to all the local thrift stores and junk inspired shops. We ended up picking a good weekend because a couple of places had spring deals and a couple of places had large garage sales.

I had been looking forward to this event for weeks, and on Thursday morning, plans were shook up a bit. When I was leaving for work, I fell outside my house on some icy stairs. While I was falling, I saw my leg move in a terrible angle. When I first fell, I was sure I had broke my leg. I laid on the ice for 20 minutes. I figured since I could move my toes and my leg didn't look that bad, I was probably okay. I hopped to my car (it was closer than the house) and decided (probably while in shock) that I would start driving to work (which is 45 minutes away) and that it would feel just fine by then. After driving for 15 minutes I realized that it wasn't going to be possible for me to get to work. I went to the ER and ended up getting x-rays. I didn't break anything, but I either tore a ligment or bruised my tissue pretty bad. I'm in a knee stabilizer, and crutches and was stuck on bed rest for two days.

So to say the least, although I felt better on today, it was a long day and I'm currently icing my knee and ankle. Oh..and crutches and junk stores do not mix.

Any who, I got lots of fun stuff. I really like vintage Pyrex. I picked up a few fun pieces. I still have to figure out if I'm going to display it or just put it in the cupboards to be used. I also snatched up two chairs the minute I walked (or hobbled) up to JB Knacker. I was looking for two more chairs for my table and these chairs match the fabric I've covered the other chairs in already and are awesome and chippy.

 New Vintage Pyrex.

New chairs with our table and white chairs.

I know they are chippy, but I love them for that. They are solid and the white "leather" backing is in good shape.

New Pyrex and basket. This bookcase still needs work (it's kinda a mod podge of random stuff right now. I'm going to figure it out eventually. Not to mention the burlap boxes need some work as well.)

New champagne glasses with my existing crystal wine glasses. Love when stuff matches!

A old golf ball basket...not sure exactly what my plans are, but I love it nonetheless.
